Wet Pour Surfaces
Wet Pour Surfaces are a popular choice for playgrounds due to their shock-absorbent nature and ability to reduce the impact of falls. They offer an affordable and long-lasting alternative to traditional loose-fill surfacing. In addition, wet pour surfaces can be used for a range of outdoor applications such as road safety paving in nursing homes. If you are looking for a durable and cost-effective solution for your outdoor space, our team of expert engineers can help you create a beautiful wet pour safety surface for your children’s play area.
Wet pour rubber surfacing is made in-situ to a precise specification on site. A mixture of rubber crumb and a polyurethane binder is poured onto the base layer of your chosen substrate. The material is spread and smoothed to the correct thickness before being allowed to cure. Once cured, the surface can be coloured to meet your specific design requirements.
Designing a Fun and Safe Playground with Wet Pour Surfacing
This versatile surfacing can be laid over a variety of hard-standing substrates. This includes existing concrete, tarmac and paving slabs, or new excavated bases with a crushed rock sub-base. Wet pour can also be installed over a permeable surface such as gravel.
A wet pour base layer is typically made from a hardwearing mix of SBR (styrene butadiene rubber) and EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer). SBR is a recycled rubber product sourced from tyres that have reached the end of their working life, whilst EPDM is a man-made rubber with a higher tensile strength. Both of these materials are hard-wearing and can be colour matched to your specific design.
